Leadership and Staff Development

Sharon Knight has been a teacher and a leader in the area of nonprofit best practices for years. With more than 25 years’ experience in the positions of Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director, and Chief Operating Officer, she has direct knowledge and insights to call upon for any leadership development or coaching opportunity. More importantly, though, Ms. Knight is a continuous learner, staying abreast of current methodologies, trends, and strategies needed in today’s rapidly changing, fast-paced environment.  She is a natural teacher and a preferred coach to assist staff at all levels of the organization to reach their potential and demonstrate remarkable growth – ultimately leading them to improved measurable results.

Sharon Knight Consulting can offer training and coaching to employees and boards on a variety of topics. Sharon is available to provide short presentations, longer workshops or ongoing training as needed by the organization. While customized presentations and coaching are always possible, common topics for employees include:

  • Human Resources – strengthening supervisory and leadership skills, building effective teams, establishing an inclusive environment, implementing an effective on-boarding process
  • Fundraising – improving fundraising success, engaging the board in fundraising, building an individual donor base
  • Programs – evaluating success, effective two-generation strategies
  • Financial – budget development, fiscal acuity, leveraging limited resources
  • Governance – responsibilities of a board of directors, policies and procedures, the CEO/board relationship
  • External Relations – building effective community partnerships, engaging community, strengthening volunteer programs, advocacy, media relations

On occasion, it is the Executive Director of an organization that needs assistance – to become familiar with new practices, increase knowledge of specific organizational or operational skills, work through sticky employee issues, or navigate difficult relationships with community partners or the board. Ms. Knight can offer insight and coaching through any of these instances.

“I highly endorse Sharon as an effective consultant. Over the years, I have contracted with her to provide training and consultation to several nonprofit boards for governance and fundraising. I have also recommended her to others. She is an exceptional communicator in part because she listens and understands client needs. She also has a comprehensive and deep knowledge base.”

John Chin, Executive Director, Adams County School District 14 Education Foundation, retired.
